This beautiful converted steading offers a wonderful combination of character and modern living together with a location which makes this an ideal holiday destination.

In less than 60 miles you can explore the Trossachs, Loch Lomond and that most historical of cities; Edinburgh. Even closer, Glasgow offers designer shopping and a cultural heritage and so why not take advantage of a free day’s pet boarding and let the train take the strain.

Chatelherault Country Park, holds the accolade of being graded a 5 star visitor attraction under the prestigious VisitScotland grading scheme. Built in 1732 as the hunting lodge and summer house for the Dukes of Hamilton, Chatelherault now serves as the magnificent gateway to the Country Park and the ancient woodlands surrounding the main building are spectacular.

New Lanark Heritage Centre is highly recommended and a particular highlight includes the Annie McLeod Experience dark ride, which features the ghost of mill girl Annie who reveals the amazing story of the life and times in New Lanark in the 1820's. The conservation village of New Lanark is the gateway to the Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve owned and managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. Here you can enjoy the delightful riverside walks and follow in the footsteps of the many poets and painters including Wordsworth and Turner. There are three waterfalls upstream from New Lanark and Corra Linn is the grandest and highest of the Falls of Clyde.

This area has a rich heritage from the Romans to castles, canals and more; Bothwell Castle is one of the outstanding monuments of medieval Scotland.

The area has an extensive network of cycling routes from easy to less predictable and let’s not forget the excellent choice on offer for fishing fanatics. The walking here is superb and particularly recommended is the graceful cone shaped hill of Tinto which is the highest point in central Scotland. The views from the summit are amazing and on a clear day the view takes in the Lake District, the mountains of Mourne in Northern Ireland, Ailsa Craig and Arran in the Firth of Clyde, the Arrochar Alps and as far north as Lochnagar in the Cairngorms.

The lovely little market town of Biggar boasts a Puppet Theatre and the views from the town across the Southern Uplands are beautiful. From Biggar the drive down over the Beef tub into Moffat are truly spectacular and the source of the Tweed is by the road side.

For true adventurers the gold panning experience at Wanlockhead is unmissable and if you are lucky you may discover lots more spending money!
